The SHL grinding machine is engineered for deployment in robot grinding systems. An SHL bus system is used to link it to the robot and integrate it into a functional whole. The machine has been engineered to meet the particular demands presented by the grinding and deburring of machined workpieces and moulded parts – even where these have extremely difficult contours – and materials made from metal, non-ferrous metals, wood and plastics, with varying belt speeds.

Thanks to the programmable movement of the contact wheel, grinding can take place both at the free belt as well as the contact wheel. Its compact form factor offers excellent freedom of movement for the workpiece.

With the standard design for aluminium grinding, dust from aluminium-based materials can combine with air to form highly-explosive mixtures. Thanks to our high level of expertise in this safety-relevant industrial process, SHL can also engineer a solution for your use case. SHL requested that the FKS be tested by TÜV Süd for compliance with the Machinery Directive and has now received a test report.

Particular design characteristics

  • Contact wheel diameter from 250 to 450 mm
  • Fine-grained, steplessly programmable control of the contact wheel contact pressure, to compensate for workpiece tolerances
  • Contact wheel can be retracted/extended via the robot program, ensuring that a large free belt area is available with the contact wheel retracted
  • Contact wheel adjustable for initial/subsequent configuration, to match different contact wheel diameters
  • Optionally, the upper guide roller can be used as a fully-functional contact wheel unit with automated delegated contact control for smaller radiuses
  • Microprocessor controlled frequency converter for stepless control of spindle rotary speed
  • Digital display of the drive spindle rotary speed in the centre control panel, for exact setting of speed level for the corresponding work area, in relation to contact wheel diameter and the materials selected for grinding
  • Display and setting of rotary speed for belt speed via external control panel
  • Stepless, automated belt re-tensioning mechanism for constant maintenance of the belt tension set in the robot program or manually via the central control panel
  • Pneumatically activated automated belt slackening during belt changing
  • Motorised belt tracking mechanism via key on grinding machine
  • Drive spindles powered independently of one another
